Part-time guest race reporter JQ is on site in Pattaya to offer his daily views on the World Warm up.
The Worlds Warm Up is here Finally. I haven’t raced 1/8th (or driven it) since September, so over 160 days ago! Sure feels great to drive again. The first practice today I drove like a beginner, really I went too wide, couldn’t jump, and generally was all over the place. Then over the next 6 rounds of practice I started getting the connection back between my brain, fingers, and car.... Click Read More for report and a few photos.

The facility here is top-notch. Pits are good, and even have a sprinkler system that spreads cool moisture so we don’t boil in the 30+ temps. Its possible to order all kinds of foods to the track, for the westerners who like to play it safe; CrapDonalds and Pizza Hut can be ordered to your own pit table. There’s a super high grandstand, which I assume will be a VIP area for the worlds.

The track itself is amazing! Pictures really don’t do it justice. Its not super wide, but very deep. Its quite like the
Indonesia Worlds track in size I think. There aren’t too many jumps that one can actually jump, but loads of rollers, banked corners, off camber sections etc. A track where slow = fast 100%. This is not a track for banzai full throttle mayhem. This is all about loads of steering for hairpins, and super exact throttle control. They have some kind of oil on the track, and it keeps the dust away, but unfortunately makes the sand from the track stick to the car! But its not too bad. Its quite slippery, but very smooth, and I heard it stays this way. Lets see in the coming days.
Who is fast? I don’t know, same bunch that were here in December, I guess. I’m not, that’s for sure, but maybe I will learn. Tomorrow is another whole day of practice.
