This past weekend Luke Richards attended the Novak Shootout at the Summit R/C Raceway. There were about 80 entries with 10 heats and the qualifying format was three rounds of rocket round and one 6 minute main. In round one and two Luke was unable to put together a clean run and qualified 5th. In round three he was on a pace to TQ by 8 seconds with 3 minutes left when it started raining and his pace fell off a lap and he was unable to move up.

Luke lined up fifth on the grid but he had full confidence that his Kyosho RB6 was the best car on the track. When the tone went off everyone was ready to race and on the second corner 3rd and 4th got together and he was able to pass them both with his sights set on second. After about 4 laps he was able to get around second. Luke was pushing the leader and after three laps the leader made a mistake and he was able to get around him for the lead. Luke led the last 3 minutes of the race and crossed the line for the win.

REDS Racing is pleased to announce a new update for the 3 shoe “one touch” effortless clutch system: REDS THREE 2.0. The development of the new version 2.0 has affected the clutch shoes 7075 T6 which have been completely redesigned in order to improve the engine performance at low RPM and increase clutch life.

The new shoes are shorter, lighter and designed for engagement during the entire shoe stroke. The shoes are less sensitive to wear and as such life time is increased. The clutch engages at higher RPM range, resulting in more controllable power during acceleration, while still maintaining good handling and performance on jumps.

The clutch can be adjusted tanks to the traditional combination of different springs and shoes. Three different types of springs are available, with a diameter of 0.9 – 1.0 – 1.1 mm, and two different types of shoes: the traditional aluminum 7075 shoes and the optional ones in carbon.

During the annual RCX show in Long Beach, California former World Champion Cody King took up the challenge of VRC Pro and starred in the main final – Kyosho’s most recent World Championstarted 4th but dropped back to dead last after lap 1 but then started an impressive come back to win the multiplayer A Main final Short Course Trucks with 0.22 seconds over Tekin team racer Nick Waulet and 1.5 seconds over Associated Nick Sava. 7 Year old Reece Myer TQ’d qualifying but couldn’t cope with the pressure in the A Main, yet… Remember this name, he’s one of Associated’s aces for the future!

FREE-TO-PLAY

The new membership models Free-to-Play and All-inclusive have been welcomed by r/c racers from around the world. Racers who sign up for a Free-to-Play account get 3 off-road tracks, 2 asphalt on-road tracks and 2 carpet on-road tracks, plus the short course truck, 1:10 and 1:12 electric and 1:8 and 1:10 nitro on-road for unlimited time. And it’s totally free; including full access to on-line competitions and multi-player racing. Extra cars and tracks can be purchased at any time. The All-inclusive membership has been embraced by many existing customers who now have full access to all the content and don’t have to purchase any additional tracks, cars and components, including all new releases. With all the content and cars available to them, they can participate in any event or multi-player session, and in any car class.

Because of the very attractive Free-to-Play model VRC Pro has recently welcomed its 40.000th registered member and expects to hit the magic 100.000 number by the end of 2013!

3 RACER CLASSES IN SEASON 3

On top of the earlier introduced ABC final system, the virtual direct opponents and target selection, VRC is now adding a fourth major feature to its on-line event structure. Racers are now automatically divided in 3 classes: Club – Sports – Pro. The purpose of this new class system is to offer VRC racers to compete on a level he feels comfortable with and where he has a real chance to win the event in his class.

The class is partly determined by the system by measuring your racing performance (skill level) and comparing this with other racers with the same skill level, but the racer can also select a higher class.

At your very first official race you will be placed in a class which corresponds with the result you just scored, but you may also opt to go racing in a higher class. You cannot opt for a lower class though. During a racing series you may always opt for a higher class but you will lose all the points you have earned in that season. At the end of the season you may be promoted to a higher class based on your new skill level (this is mandatory) or demoted to a lower class but you can opt to stay in the higher class.

The second round of the Estonian Nationals took place this past weekend at the Luige Racetrack. In the EP class it was Rainer Ressar, while driving for VP PRO, who claimed overall TQ before going on to dominate two out of the three finals securing him the overall win ahead of Tõnu Tooming and team mate Anre Tamme. Rainer stated that the Striker SF tyre was his best choice on the high grip track. Unfortunately Rainer broke his rear diff bearing during the nitro final forcing him to retire from third place.
