AWS Race report

On the 28th of February 2016, the final round of the AWS arrived at the great venue which is Ledbury Model Car Club. Booking in opened at 7am, and the racing commenced at 9am. We kicked off the day with three rounds of qualifying, starting with the Truggy’s. With the top spots still in the air, it all came down to the results from this round to see where everyone would be in the overall championship.

The weather was on the cold side, but importantly it was dry. The dry conditions made the track a high grip surface. With round one underway we saw some very good driving, with the top boys putting in some really quick laps and respectable times going in as well. This meeting was very important for one driver, Dan Austin, as he had to TQ this meeting and to finish in the top 3 of the A final to take overall first place in the championship.

Ryan Maifield’s Alabama Double slammer

The annual AMS 6.0 event in Alabama was held over the weekend with it’s traditional Saturday finish allowing racers to return home without missing the Monday off work, qualifying witnessed a great showing from Dakotah Phend TQ’ing however it was TLR team mate Ryan Maifield who would go onto claim a double victory in Pro nitro buggy & truck.

An error from polesitter Dakotah Phend on the first lap in pro buggy allowed Ryan Maifield past and he never looked back, Phend would settle for 2nd and the ever increasingly impressive Cole Ogden finishing where he started in 3rd – not so for Associated’s Carson Wernimont, he had a tough first lap, but made it into a solid 3rd position before becoming the 2nd retirement of the final.

Phend would redeem himself however, taking both A1 & A2 victories in the Pro E-Buggy class, phending off (yes that just happened…) Carson Wernimont in 2nd.
