Howler & HoBao on a Roll

CML reports – The 3rd round of the popular CML Winter series took place at Frankley the weekend after the original date was cancelled due to Extreme snow. After all the snow and a number of cancelled meetings due to the freak weather and the Christmas break we were all itching to kick off the new year. Order of the day was to be 3 rounds of qualifying and 15 minute across the board finals. Live Video and timing were again used for this event with thanks to Teddy Truman of TTRC and Pirate RC. After a great finish to 2010 with the new HoBao HyperStar Jon Howells rolled up to a damp Frankley track full of confidence. With a few top drivers in attendence such as Richard Taylor and his Losi, Elliot Boots’ new RB powered Durango and Si Willetts testing out the HyperStar the pace would be quick. With the usual format of 3 rounds of qualifying with 2 to count, Jon kicked off 2011 with the addition of the new RB Cross10 engine. This was chosen for having a smoother power delivery and proved to be a wise choice as the track was pretty slippy early one. The new engine combo suited the Hyper perfect helping Jon to take TQ in round one closely followed by Si Willetts. Read more here.

Willetts on the move?

We received a tip off regarding top UK driver Simon Willetts’ team future in 2011. In 2010 he drove for Kyosho/Orion/AKA but we understand ‘Butch‘ has been testing a few different cars at the Frankley astroturf track. According to our source he has tried out the Team Durango, XRAY and HoBao Hyper Star. The latest info is that Willetts will test ‘THE Car’ next, but Durango and HoBao are the teams that he has been most strongly linked with. Durango already have a sizeable UK presence with Boots and Doughty as the most recent signings not forgetting Kevin Brunsden who joined last year. HoBao have perhaps the less competitive team (in terms of race victories); Jon Howells & new dad Andy Nicholas but are already good friends with Willetts.
