Ongaro was one of the true stars at the 2016 IFMAR Worlds in Vegas, shining throughout the event including the main final, eventually technical issues robbing the young Italian of a deserved podium appearance.

Phend & Tebo confirmed at AKA

Not a surprise move this one after the news of both leaving Pro-Line, Dakotah’s tenure at PL slightly longer than Tebo’s single 2016 season, which saw him win Neo16, TQ the Worlds before returning to race AKA rubber.

The pair of new AKA drivers are two amongst quite a few new faces at AKA, with the likes of Robert Batlle joining them as well as Davide Ongaro as AKA looks to rebuild following the double departures of Ryan Cavalieri and David Ronnefalk to JConcepts.

Dakotah Phend and Jared Tebo will be attending the CRCRC event in Columbus, Ohio this weekend.

David Ronnefalk

Recently crowned 1/8 Buggy World Champion David Ronnefalk has confirmed his rumoured departure from tyre manufacturer AKA.

In a statement on social media Ronnefalk thanked AKA for their 8 years together, the pairing yielding countless victories with 3 European Championships and the 2016 World title the undoubted highlight.

“To all friends, fans and followers that have supported my racing, earlier this year I decided 2016 would be my last year with AKA.

I’ve been with AKA since the start and just felt like it was the right time for something new after 8 happy years racing together. I will forever be thankful for everything the guys at AKA have done for me and to my racing career. Big thanks to Joel, Mark and Gil for always supporting me to the fullest with great products that made us win those titles together. I would also like to thank Greg, Pres, Jeremy and Brent for their hard work during these years together.

I’m delighted that I was able to win the big one a second time for AKA, as well as the 3 Euro titles and many other accolades together as a team in my racing career.

I wish them the best in the future and also look forward to a fresh start in 2017!

Luck & Tyres cost Ronnefalk Swedish Cup victory

DSC_4123-X2

In what can only be described as a déjà vu moment for the Swedish star, David Ronnefalk suffered further equipment failure – this time at the Swedish Cup event in Höör, Southern Sweden – the 2nd consecutive event with problems after the disappoint at the Euros where one of his servos overheated whilst leading forcing retirement.

Ronnefalk bemoaned his continued bad luck in a Facebook post, with 10 mins left all four tyres began to fail at the same time – not coming unglued but a quadruple bead separation / tear of his AKA rubber according to photos.

The domestic Swedish Cup event was a must win after only being able to attend two of three of the events, however with a solid lead Ronnefalk would lose almost a lap during the last 5 mins as he struggled his way to the finish line to claim a valiant yet disappointing 2nd behind rising female star Jessica Pålsson, taking her maiden overall cup victory.

AKA in the spotlight

With title aspirations at the looming World Championships in October in Vegas the 5x Euros polesitter is one of only 3 AKA-sponsored drivers (Cavalieri, Lutz the other two) ranked within the Top 25 Rankings, rivals Pro-Line dominate the list with 14 whilst JConcepts also have 3 drivers including top ranked Ryan Maifield.

Whilst finishing 2nd at the rain-shortened warm up back in May, Ronnefalk will be hoping his luck changes and the rubber holds together as they head to the Casino Capital for the Worlds in October.
