Bruno Coelho takes a sensational surprise victory on home soil in Portugal, having started 3rd, the multi talented star owes a significant part of his victory to travelling pit men Gord and Ty Tessmann, who ensured he pitted once less and had a dialed in car. Taking nothing away however after an incredible drive proving his versatility and skill.

Davide Ongaro would make it into the final via the LCQ, after breaking early on in his semi final, having started last and expecting to start last had it not been for Robert Batlle calling a last minute time out where he switched tyres and changed setup and starting from pitlane. With Batlle and Ongaro at the back the final looked v.tasty.

David Ronnefalk led out having started on pole finally finding his pace, but managed only 3 corners before binning it in the infield, the marshal unable to get to his car allowing the field to sweep past. This let Juan Carlos Canas into a commanding position and he would play an integral part until fading a little as Ongaro tried in vain to wrestle down the leader Coehlo who came into play, Coelho had made the late gamble to switch to run Pro-Line rubber during the finals after Hot Race during qualifying; it clearly worked for the Portuguese star as he was able to keep a charging Ongaro at bay.

It was a well-earned victory as the 1/8 Offroad fulltimers Boots, Batlle and Ronnefalk would finish 4-6, Ronnefalk rueing his opening 10mins before settling down to recover to 4th, Elliott Boots having flamed out on the last lap in the semi started 8th and wasn’t on the frontrunning pace all week. Robert Batlle who would have started 4th had it not been for the time out rolled home in 6th, likely of little consolation for the man that many tipped ‘could beat Ongaro’. It would have been a fairytale for Ongaro but he will have to settle for 2nd, Coelho’s pit strategy and clean laps proving too much for the Italian wonderkid, Canas will be happy finishing on the podium, despite leading for some time he faded a little towards the end but undoubtedly has a bright future ahead.

A huge congrats to Bruno and the XRAY team!
