In what has so far been a lovely, sunny Saturday morning here at Harper Adams University it was Mugen’s Ryan Maifield who opened Nitro qualifying with the best time to snatch the TQ in round 1, Jared Tebo ending in 2nd only one and a half seconds behind to a few surprised spectators whilst fellow quad-jumper Rivkin closing an all-American top3.

With Tebo and Rivkin both going for the quad, a riskier but surely faster option, Maifield decided to go for the safer triple single approach and that paid dividends, the Arizona-native man of the moment driver not making any mistakes throughout the 5 minutes. Tebo has been showing the usual “Neo” pace and was leading until he crashed on the quad as well as a few other bobbles that dropped him in second.

A “clean enough” run gave Rivkin third for the round, a conservative driving key for the good results despite landing on a car after quading, ahead of the charging Italian duo of Zanchettin and Baruffolo that came up from the second fastest heat to finish 4th and 5th respectively. The first British in the standings would be Boots in 6th, his time 1.5 seconds faster than Lee Martin’s. Not a great start for David Ronnefalk who suffered a broken shock tower after crashing into one of the beams holding up the building, his HB coming off worse.
