One of the bigger headlines at NeoX was that of last year’s Top Qualifier & new HB recruit Reno Savoya seemingly ditching Sweep Racing tyres in favour of running JConcepts at NeoX and the foreseeable future. Savoya’s relationship with Sweep Racing appeared very tight having taken part in the formation of ‘SweepShop’ – a direct sales & distribution shop aimed at the European market however the distinct lack of any Sweep branding on his HB D815 ‘Shark’ buggy had a few people talking.

According to the grapevine, Savoya made a late call to Jason Ruona of JConcepts in an effort to furnish him with tyres in time for NeoX – Jason obliged, also making the trip over himself for the first time. Fast forward a weekend and Savoya is TQ at the EFRA GP at Noeux les Mines in France – having TQ’d 4 of the 6 rounds of qualifying at Jerome Sartel’s home track.

JConcepts have long lacked any significant representation in the European market – focusing on N.America has yielded success for Jason Ruona’s highly-regarded company. Whether the deal with Savoya is a race-by-race affair or the start of a longer relationship remains to be seen at this stage.
