Round 1 of the Malaysian Nationals series was run this past weekend. Didier Perrin (Mugen/OS/AKA) took TQ after 5 rounds of qualifying. Closely followed by David Lim (Kyosho/RB/James) who was seen testing the new B2101 engine from OS, will we see a change in power plant for the Malaysian champion? Many other drivers had changed car and engine package for the first round of the nationals only time will tell… In third Indonesian drive Chopin (Hong Nor/Novarossi/Procircuit) had pace and consistency, he would be a challenge for the main win.

After winning his semi Didier would also start the main from pole position. The final was set for a 60-minute race and right form the start Chopin took the lead after Didier struggled with grip early on. Ben Panic (Kyosho/OS/JConcepts) made his way though the field to third place and the first five drivers gapped the field. Up front after the first round of stops it was Chopin, Didier and Ben. They pulled away and had a great race over the first 20 minutes, no more than a few seconds apart. With the grip coming up and the sun heating the track Didier found his car began to work better and he went after Chopin. Ben had issues when a car landed on his in the big double section, a broken pipe mount and bent throttle linkage slowed him for the rest of the race. At the halfway point he lost third to Indra Liono (SWorkz/ SWorkz) and right behind him was Daniel Law who had changed his whole package this year to SWorkz. David Lim made his way through the field after a tough start and was moving up the order. Out front Chopin had the lead, Didier closed it to a few seconds and managed to pass him and lead the drivers home for the win. David Lim managed to pass Daniel for fourth place. The Indonesian pair of Chopin and Indra secured second and third on the podium, great drives from both after flying over on Thursday for the race.
