McBride claims Australian A.C.T Titles

The Australian A.C.T 2014 State Titles for IC Buggy and Truggy where held at the Canberra Off Road Model Car Club (cormcc). The club had made some major changes to the layout leading up to the event placing all driver’s including the locals on a level playing field for this event, being known for one of the best clay surfaces in Australia all drivers knew that the track surface would grip up a treat over the 3 day event and all the new jumps sections would bed in nicely with some traffic flow.

Friday morning started of very cold with every one rugged up for the 3 degree weather, two rounds of practice for everyone to get there set ups sorted before late afternoon qualifying got under way, the new jumps section on the front straight proved to be very interesting during practice with multiple options available, some faster than others but some much more consistent, the sun came out mid-morning bringing the temperature up to 19 degrees for qualifying, Kyosho’s Kyle McBride showed the way in both Buggy and Truggy classes taking the TQ position in each class.

Saturday morning started much the same with 2 degree weather before the sun came out and the temperature reached 18 degrees, the qualifying was fast and furious in both classes but again it was Kyosho’s Kyle McBride that was to the lead the way with overall TQ in Truggy , followed by Mugen Seiki’s Matt Griffin with his new MBX7T taking second place and Shane Kelly in third heading into the A main final for Sunday.
It was again Kyosho’s Kyle McBride leading the way in the Buggy class again taking TQ position overall after the 5 rounds of qualifying with Mugen Seiki’s Andrew Foord finishing up second and Losi’s Craig Laughton in third heading into the A main for Sunday.

Sunday morning started nice and early for the lower bump up finals, the weather again started out nice and cold until the sun came out and produced another nice 20 degree day, the lower finals well under way and all the A main final guys preparing their cars for the big show waiting for the guys to bump their way through from the B main finals to fill the last 5 spots in the 15 car field.

A main Truggy Final up first it was Shane Kelly with mechanical issues unable to take his place on the grid ( 3rd ) before the reduced field got under way for the 45 minute final, Kyle McBride got away clean from grid 1 and left the rest of the field chasing, it was Craig Laughton, Matt griffin and Andrew Foord swapping position for 2nd, 3rd and 4th until Matt Griffin was to retire from the race at the 8 minute mark and Craig Laughton then settled into his rhythm in 2nd position, Andrew Foord in 3rd position and this was how the race was to finish, Kyle McBride lead the race from start to finish in a precision display of the young man’s ability and skill.

A main Buggy Final was the last race of the day with every one wondering can Kyle McBride complete another state title double as he has done so many times over the last 5 years, The buggy final player out very much the same as the truggy final but the podium positions settled much earlier, Kyle McBride lead the race from start to finish to take out yet another state title Buggy / Truggy double, Craig Laughton finished 2nd to complete a buggy / truggy pair of seconds and Andrew Foord finished 3rd to complete a buggy / truggy pair of third place finishes for the event.

The Canberra club had yet again put on a fantastic event where the track layout and surface had left people from all over the country saying they can’t wait for the 2015 event, huge effort for the very few guys that keep this small club up and running all year round.
