IFMAR 2012 WC: Brazil out, Argentina in

8 months after the original announcement, NeoBuggy has learnt unofficially that after worries concerning customs entry into the country, IFMAR unanimously voted to reject the Brazilian candidacy as 2012 WC host in a July 19th IFMAR meeting. Since the news broke last year of Brazil as hosts, various industry insiders expressed concern, citing the experiences from the 2004 1/10 200mm Worlds held at the same proposed venue in Jundiai.

Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina are the new hosts with a track yet to be appointed. Argentina have long been mentioned as a viable alternative to Brazil with recent Worlds hosting experience in 2007; 1/8 Onroad Worlds in Cordoba. The decision is likely to be welcomed by the 1/8 Offroad fraternity, the firm but unofficial news is likely to be confirmed within a few weeks. We understand the host bloc FAMAR are committed to hosting a Worlds worthy of all the drivers with an emphasis on fairness with plans to close and alter the track after the warm up event to prevent last year’s 3 week practice session; in a poll on the subject over 70% of readers voted against the topic of pre-event practice. More news soon
