This weekend ROAR Nationals host track Thunder Alley organised a warm up race – a chance for drivers to get some wheel time at the normally elevation heavy, rhythmical Southern California track. The TA track crew (Levi & Rob) did their usual terrific job of staying on top of the conditions while keeping it slightly wet for the qualifiers and main events.
AE driver Ryan Maifield was on fine form, using a brand new prototype front shock tower [see photo] and blue Kyosho springs on his shocks, we hear ‘test mule‘ Richard Saxton had a couple of other new parts on his buggy but AE were clear in that they wanted the cars’ details photographed as little as possible. Rumours suggest that Maifield & co were tesing a new geometry closer to Kyosho’s MP9 – which has suddenly been very very strong in the hands of team drivers both in Europe and stateside.
The new geometry appears to have suited Ryan as he TQ’d and took a commanding win infront of Ty Tessmann (still running the D8) and Jared Tebo in 3rd, keep a look out to see if Maifield runs the revised front end at the Silver State this coming weekend, his performance at the ROAR warm up sets him up well for Silver State as well as Neo11 in three weeks. . Leading the whole 60 minute main, Ryan made only one mistake during the main while maintaining great composure negotiating the challenging track. His speedy pit crew (shout out to Brent) did the dirty work getting him in and out of the pits quickly and clean. Equipped with JConcepts all weekend Ryan’s RC8b was decked out with Punisher body, Illuzion HD rear wing and the versatile Hybrid tire.
