RB’s in house Skunkworks team have come up with something Quite Interesting; oval-shaped venturis which they claim reduces fuel consumption significantly and making the engine power very progressive. The graph below shows airflow % vs cab opening % and compares a standard circular venturi and the new oval shape. On paper the idea appears to be quite simple, you need less throttle to achieve the same power as before; at 25% throttle the airflow is 8% with the oval venturi vs 25% on a standard venturi, the returns look especially promising between the useable 25% – 75% range. If numbers are to be believed, than at 75% throttle (carb opening), the Airflow percentage is reduced by 40%.
